If you've always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
At Dive Academy, we use PADI's eLearning portal for all knowledge development for the Open Water course, so we can focus our time & efforts on teaching you the practical skills in the confined and open water sessions.
At Dive Academy, we have the only dive aquarium in Ireland; this provides an opportunity to sample ocean - like conditions in a confined water environment. Learning basic skills in a warm water swimming pool is an important step, but Dive Academy is unique in that we can continue the Confined Water practice in our aquarium, which is filled with cool seawater. This gives you a better appreciation of diving at depth, and also the opportunity to dive in exposure gear-wetsuit.
To enrol in the PADI Open Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must be:
The fun part of this course is...well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you'll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver.
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear including a dive computer, and standard accessories.
At Dive Academy we offer three different options for the PADI Open Water Diver course, depending on your availability, flexibility and budget. Follow the links below to find out about each option

Once you have completed the PADI Open Water Diver course, you effectively have a license to dive at any PADI Dive Centre (and many non-PADI centres) in the world, with other qualified divers. This is a qualification for life and is universally recognised – it is your passport to explore the underwater wonders of this planet.
What's the next step after this course
Having completed Open Water Diver, there are many more courses you can take to develop more skills such as diving even deeper than 18 metres. So, while Open Water Diver, is the most important of all dive qualifications, you can consider it the start of a journey of learning and developing advanced dive skills.
