In advance of this Dive Academy plan to approach local national schools and invite pupils to participate in an art competition around the theme "protecting our oceans" with a try dive in the swimming pool as first prize. On the day itself:
- Junior Adventure "Dive Against Debris" Dive at White Strand - for qualified junior divers (under 16 years old); each diver will take an official "Project Aware" mesh bag and collect any debris they find during the dive. We depart Dive Academy at 9am for a 9.30am start (to coincide with high tide)
- Public Beach Clean at White Strand - From 10am - 12 noon we invite our members, parents of the junior divers, other organisations and the public to join us in a beach clean. There will be specially designed T Shirts for the event that we will ask volunteers to wear while they collect rubbish from the beach.
- Art display & judging - From 2pm at Dive Academy we will be displaying the art submitted for our art competition & asking all viewers to vote for their favourite; votes will be counted and the winners announced before the end of the afternoon. We will also be showing videos and serving light refreshments at this time.
- Debris Collection in the Aquarium - even our unique aquarium is not immune to the scourge of debris. at the same time as the art exhibition (2pm) we will host a swim/snorkel event in the aquarium to collect any accumulated rubbish. This will be open to anyone who can bring their own wetsuit (especially kids) and will be free of charge.
We hope you can join us for some or all of the activities on June 8th - it is important to show how much we love our oceans and coastlines and how much we want to rid them of debris. See you all there!
